Affect Hypnotherapy - Psychotherapy
Affective Hypnotherapy is a short therapeutic approach that addresses all levels and substrata of the neurobiological, emotional (emotional), emotional, as well as cognitive and behavioral human functions. Biothymics does not theoretically or practically separate the neurobiological from the emotional or the emotional or even the cognitive-behavioral domain. He does not simply consider that these functions are interrelated, he considers that in the adult they are identical in all their levels of function or action. This is true even in the outward manifestation of emotion with corresponding mental images, thoughts and behaviors. In short, Biothymiki sees the human being from a holistic, functional point of view and not simply as a set of interrelated, but independent functions. However, the ultimate goal of Biothymic Hypnotherapy is the decoding and reframing of the pre-verbal / pre-symbolic emotional-neurological encodings, which create the predispositions for the development and maintenance of psycho-emotional and psycho-somatic disorders.
Affect Hypnotherapy - Psychotherapy has recognizable origins in approaches to clinical hypnosis such as Eriksonian and Neo-Ericksonian, the treatment of ego states, symbrodrama and analytical hypnotherapy. Although the therapeutic process is to some extent standardized, it provides at the same time a flexible structure that allows the therapeutic process to be adapted to the specific needs of each patient, as they are formed in each phase during the development of the treatment. Biothymic Hypnotherapy uses innovative techniques that have been developed and documented through careful and long-term clinical research, especially regarding their multi-level effectiveness.
An important aspect of the Affect approach is the psychoeducation, or the preparation of the treated on a conscious level. The main goal of psychoeducation is to gradually focus the attention (conscious and unconscious) of the treated person through targeted discussions, on the internal mechanisms that create and maintain his unwanted, automatic reactions, or the disturbing symptoms from which he suffers. It also aims to create appropriate conditions that ensure the cooperation of the conscious in the healing process. As mentioned above, the final therapeutic goal of Biothymic Hypnotherapy is the experiential reframing or recoding of emotional predispositions at a pre-symbolic and pre-verbal level. Biothymic Hypnotherapy is effectively applied in the treatment of all psycho-emotional and psycho-physiological disorders.
The theoretical background that determines the practice of Affect Hypnotherapy differs from that of other approaches to clinical hypnosis. The theoretical bases on which Biothymic Hypnotherapy is based, as is evident from its name, are mainly the latest research in the neurobiology of emotion in modern affective neuroscience - Affective Neuroscience (Atkinson, Damasio, Goleman, Greenfield , Grossinger, LeDoux, Noble, Panksepp, Pert), the theoretical and practical principles of Affect-Logic as formulated by the Swiss psychiatrist Luc Ciompi, as well as the theory of Ego States as it has modeled by John and Helen Watkins, and others.
Also, an important role in the development of Biothymic therapy has been played by the theoretical and practical connections of neuroscience with the psychotherapy of the Australian Ian White, as well as the practical applications of the therapy developed by White based on these connections (Clinical Affectology or Afx Therapy). Affect Hypnotherapy also has its origins in the treatment of the subconscious developed by Ioannis Dovelos in the late 1990s. On a purely theoretical level, it is also supported by the research and theories of Epigenetics (Craig & Wong), as well as quantum theories psychology (Wilson) and the psychology of chaos (Robertson).
Every person is different, every incident is different. Although, as mentioned above, this treatment is somewhat standardized in terms of its basic structure. The Affect Hypnotherapist, depending on the case and the specifics of the case, maneuvers with structure and techniques and knows how to handle contingencies which occur quite often in this type of therapy. To be able to do this, the Hypnotherapist should have received full and comprehensive theoretical and practical training and also completed supervised clinical practice. Also, we should emphasize that although in Biothymic therapy, as in other psychotherapies, only speech is used, the techniques are structured in such a way that in most cases strong emotions and physical reactions are stimulated.
Although the first systematic, controlled research into the therapeutic effects of Biothymic Hypnotherapy is just beginning, the clinical experience so far of the significant number of trained mental health professionals who use Affect Hypnotherapy as a primary approach in their work shows that it is a particularly effective treatment with short-term and long-term results.
Affect Hypnotherapy was developed in 2008 through the clinical research and experience of a group of mental health experts, led by Yiannis Dovelos and the collaboration initially of Ian White. Since then, Biothymic Hypnotherapy has been used as a primary approach, or in combination with other approaches, by an ever-increasing number of trained mental health professionals.
